World’s Best Sugar Cookies

World’s Best Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 5 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Cream together sugars and butter.
  2. Add oil and remaining ingredients.Mix to combine.
  3. Firm into small balls and place on parchment lined cookie sheet.
  4. Press cookies with a fork.
  5. Sprinkle generously with sugar.
  6. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes.

  1. Is cream of tartar a necessary ingredient, or can you skip it?

  2. Doubled the recipe but my cookies are real thin when they bake, think I put in to much oil! Taste good but ohhh so thin.

    • Did you melt the butter? That will make the cookies flat. Softened butter does not flatten the cookie, as you stir in the softened butter. And what about your baking soda? Was it fresh or older? Sometimes these things will effect the rising or flattening of a cookie. :)

  4. I have found, as Keri noted, that butter cannot be melted. Also, making sure the butter is creamed well in your
    mixer makes a big difference. a few minutes on medium speed will make for a light, fluffy cookie. Most importantly,
    never add anything frozen; such as coconut or choc. chips fresh from the freezer. This is too drastic a change to your ingredients and causes that paper thin flattening of cookies. I’ve had too many “lace” cookies to mention!

  5. In photo sugar on top is red and green. Is this coloured sugar or jelly crystals? Looks good for Christmas.

  6. I found I did not like the vegetable oil in the recipe. I could really taste it.

  7. I can’t emphasize enough how the title DOES NOT fit this cookie!! The flavor is eh, and the texture is terrible. Not making this again…I couldn’t even see to finish baking the cookie as I wouldn’t eat it myself, or serve to my family or even give to my neighbor’s for fear they would think I make cookies this terrible. Sorry if anyone is offended but I would prefer Pillsbury ready to bake sugar cookies over these any day!!
