Creamy Homemade Mac 'N Cheese

Creamy Homemade Mac ‘N Cheese


  • 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni (an 8-ounce box isn't quite 2 cups)
  • 4 tablespoons (1/2 stuck) butter, cut into pieces
  • 2 1/2 cups (about 10 ounces) grated sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 (10 3/4-ounce) can condensed Cheddar cheese soup
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper


  1. Boil the macaroni in a 2 quart saucepan in plenty of water until tender, about 7 minutes. Drain. In a medium saucepan, mix butter and cheese. Stir until the cheese melts. In a slow cooker, combine cheese/butter mixture and add the eggs, sour cream, soup, salt, milk, mustard and pepper and stir well. Then add drained macaroni and stir again. Set the slow cooker on low setting and cook for 3 hours, stirring occasionally.


  1. Is there a way to make this on the stovetop without using the slow cooker?

    • I would suggest baking it in the oven… Mix it all in a bowl then bake it on 350* most likely for 30 mins or until it’s bubbly possibly even browning on the edges… That’s the way I would without the slow cooker, but I must say, I can’t wait to try this… I work afternoons till 8 or 9. So, slow cooking recipes are amazing…

      I can’t wait to try this… Looks Delicious… and an awful lot like the expensive brand that starts with a V and ends in an A… lol I won’t tell my daughter until after she eats it… hahaha

  2. Your pictures show a saucepan for the whole recipe. Only in the written directions do you mention a crockpot. Maybe appropriate pics would those of us who are looking for stovetop mac and cheese please.

    • I modified mine for a stove top recipe, I just took out the egg and soup and it turned out wonderfully! I hope this helps!

  4. I think what she is saying put it crock pot to keep warm . You could cook cheese sauce to get eggs cooked so you could eat it right away. Watch/stir the sauce not to burn it though.

  5. We didn’t realize that this recipe called for 3 hours in a crock pot either until we were almost done cooking it. Just made sure the eggs were cooked before we ate it and it was just fine!

  6. I made this on the stove top. I just left out the eggs and added some steamed brocoli. The family loved it!

    • That’s such a great idea… I think you could also bake it in the oven with egg and still put in the broccoli… I’m always looking for ideas to add extra veggies for my family… Thank you!

  7. I made this with the ingredients as-is, but I cooked the sauce on the stove while the noodles were cooking. I would omit the eggs next time, as they made the sauce have a grainy texture (it’s way too easy to overcook the eggs!). Also, melt the butter in the pot first, then add the milk and cheese (like in the picture); this will help the cheese melt more uniformly and make a nicer sauce.

  8. I’m in the process of making this for dinner tonight. It’s in the crock pot but already has a grainy texture and doesn’t really Taste like macaroni and cheese. I’m probably going to add velvetta cheese to make it a little more cheesy. Otherwise I’m not really happy with this recipe.

  9. Horrible….I was really hungry for a good mac and cheese and this isn’t it.
